Problem with Cockroaches, Spiders, Ants or Rodents?

We can help!

Pest Control Sydney

Unit pest control Sydney Units or townhouses are considered as high-density residential areas. From a pest control perspective treating individual units is not always enough to control certain cockroach species, rodents& ants.

Large cockroaches

The American, Oriental or Australian cockroach, live and breed in roof voids, sub floor and inside the walls of buildings.

It is for this reason why just treating one or two units is not enough to eradicate the problem.

German cockroaches

Reside in wet areas such as the kitchen, bathroom & laundry.

If you are seeing small cockroaches in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry it is important to treat the issue as soon as possible.

German cockroaches breed rapidly and can spread throughout an entire unit in a matter of weeks.

Cockroaches need warmth, water, shelter to thrive and the areas mentioned above provide all 3.

Spiders

Australia is home to some of the world’s deadliest spiders such as the funnel-web and red back spider.

A spider issue in or around high-density residential properties must be taken seriously.

When spiders appear inside it often means that pest control has not been conducted externally for an extended period.

Baby spiders appearing on the ceiling often indicate that the roof cavity has not been dusted. A spider has had the ability to lay eggs and the spider-lings that are appearing are a result of this.

Ants

Ants come from external areas, usually ground floor unit blocks and townhouses would be affected by ants more often than higher levels.

Treating 1 unit for ants is not enough to stop ants coming into the unit

An external barrier spray of the common areas should be conducted with specific focus on treating ants.

PNP Pest Control use a spray that is targeted at eradicating the nest & not only surface ants.

Rats & Mice

Another pest that comes from external areas are rats and mice. If a unit has an issue with rats or mice it is important that the external areas of the building are also treated.

Rodent control in high density living areas such as unit blocks or townhouses need to be completed in alliance with NSW & Australian standards.

Baits cannot be placed in any open area where there is a risk of children, pets or wildlife can gain access to the baits.

PNP Pest control will use lockable bait stations in all our strata managed properties to ensure only the safest baiting methods are used.

Lockable rodent stations (also known as bait stations) are an effective tool for controlling rats and mice.

They are specifically designed to prevent unauthorised access to baits, to stop the bait spilling out, ‘crumbs’ being carried away or baits being pulled out by mice and rats.

Recommendations

It is highly recommended that any property that is having an issue with large cockroaches & spiders conduct a spray to the common areas.

Ensuring the following areas area treated:

  • Roof cavity
  • Sub floor
  • Internal common areas
  • External common areas

Pest Control for large cockroaches & spiders in a unit block or townhouse complex is recommended to be completed on a 4-6 monthly basis.

Flies & Maggots

Fly Pest Control Sydney – Flies in Sydney are a common pest that may households deal with, especially during the summer months.

What may not be realise is that flies carry nasty bacteria. When they land on food they leave deposits of  disease-causing organism.

What illnesses can be caused from flies?

Some of the illnesses caused by flies include

Where do flies breed?

Flies breed in bacteria filled areas such as faeces, human food waste and garbage and often very close to humans and animals.

Scientists predict that a single fly can carry roughly 60 different diseases and can transport over a million bacteria on its small body.

What do flies look like?

Adult flies range from  8–12 mm in length; their  thorax  is grey, with four long dark lines on the back. The entire body is covered with hair-like projections.

What are Maggots?

Maggots are the fly’s larvae.

What do maggots look like?

They can be easily recognised by their cream body. Maggots have a slender head and a thick blunt rear end.

There are 2 small openings towards the rear which look like kidney beans and are used to breathe and eat dead tissue.

When do flies breed?

Fly Pest Control Sydney – Flies breed in large numbers during the warmer months. Once a good source of food is found, flies will begin to breed, and maggots will hatch.

The fly lays its eggs, often in food, so that when the eggs hatch, there a food source for their hatch-lings.

What do maggot hatch-lings look like?

The maggot hatch-lings are approximately 2 mm in length and continue to grow until they are about 15 mm in length.

What does it mean if I see maggots?

If you see maggots then there is either rotting food, waste matter or a dead animal nearby.

Follow the direction the maggots are coming from to find the food source. However, it is important to note that maggots can travel long distances, so you may not find the food source.

If the source of the maggots is found, always wear gloves when removing it to protect yourself against infection or disease.

Steps to reduce flies

  • Don’t leave pet food uncovered
  • Place any soiled nappies in a double sealed bag
  • Keep any outdoor bins in a shaded area
  • Wash your wheeled bin weekly
  • Pour bleach down your sinks & bath once every two weeks

  • Sweep maggots into a bucket and pour boiling water over them
  • If you notice maggots in your carpet, use a steam cleaner, the steam brings the maggots to the surface
  • Fill a plastic container with beer and place it where you see the maggots. (the maggots crawl into the beer and drown)

It is important to mention that bee allergies can be life threatening. It is important to take safety measures to protect yourself around a swarm.

Why Do Bees Swarm?

Swarming is a natural part of a bees reproductive life. Swarms often occur from September through to December.

A rise in temperature, ab abundance of nectar and pollen stimulate the colony to begin reproduction.

When the size of a bee colony increases overcrowding occurs, thus forcing the bees to search for a new home.

What Time Do Bees Swarm?

Bees will often emerge from their hives and begin to swarm on warm days between 11am -2pm.

How Long Do Bees Swarm For?

A swarm may be visible between 1-2 hours and in some cases can linger for a few days.

Are Bee Swarms Dangerous?

Bee swarms are not usually aggressive, however if the swarm is provoked or aggravated they will become defensive.

The longer a swarm is present the more defensive they will become.

What Should You Do If You Come Across A Bee Swarm?

  • Children and pets should be kept inside until the flight of bees have clustered onto a bush or tree
  • Keep children and pets away from the swarm
  • Always wear shoes outside in case bees have nested on the ground
  • Do not hose, poke or throw stones at the swarm
  • Interfering with the swarm will make it more difficult for a licensed pest control company to deal with.

German Cockroach Pest Control Sydney

Generally, with German cockroaches the further they move away from water the larger their populations. Once their nests become over crowded they are forced to go into rooms where there is no easy water supply.

Your pest control consultant will ask you what rooms you are seeing the German cockroaches in

Are they just confined to the kitchen, bathroom or laundry or have you seen any signs of German cockroaches in the lounge room or bedrooms?

How are German cockroaches treated?

PNP Pest Control Sydney uses a paste that is placed inside the kitchen, bathroom, laundry cupboards, behind your appliances and in other specific areas within the rooms that are affected.

How Does the Gel Work?

The gel is placed in the hinges of the cupboards and behind your appliances using a syringe and then hardens. The German cockroaches see this gel as a food source and will feed from it.

As cockroaches lick themselves clean, when they go back to the nest and other cockroaches start the cleaning process the chemical is passed amongst each other inside the nest.

Preparing for The German Cockroach Treatment

  • Clean up internally
  • clean behind the fridge if accessible
  • under the microwave
  • Limit the clutter within the house
  • Limit paper goods
  • throw out cardboard boxes and plastic bags

What to Expect After a German Cockroach Treatment

  • German cockroaches will be flushed out and will continue for up to 6 weeks
  • It is common to see baby German cockroaches coming out approx. 3- 4 weeks after the treatment
  • You should notice a 70-80% reduction in the first week and will continue to decrease

Do not be alarmed if you do not see any dead cockroaches, this does not mean that the treatment is not working as there is a possibility that they will die within their nests.

PNP Pest Control Recommends:

  • Cleaning ? Before the pest control treatment
  • Moving into a new property?  Pest control after cleaning & before moving in.
  • Painting? Finish it before pest control.
  • General Pest treatments should be carried out annually or 6 monthly for problem areas
  • Repair any leaking plumbing or appliances as they will invite cockroaches to your property

How Long Is the Warranty?

PNP Pest Control Sydney offers a 6-month warranty on our cockroach treatments

  • If ants appear to be scattered, it means the treatment is working
  • Pesticides used for ants are designed to be returned to the nest
  • Follow the instructions as provided to you by our pest control technicians

How are ants treated?

Ants travel through unsanitary paths before they end up in your home, on your counter-tops, in your cupboards and near your food.

Ants externally cannot be eradicated with the traditional cockroach/spider sprays and ants typically will stay away from areas that have been treated with spider or cockroach sprays.

It is common that a company may tell you that ants are covered in their general spray, however what they are not informing you, ants will close off the entry points to their nests and will relocate them to another area.

PNP Pest Controls’ ant treatments do not just eradicate the surface ants, it is designed to eradicate the entire nest of ants and their queen.

What areas are treated?

Internal:

A low toxic ant bait will be placed in areas where ants and their trails are being seen. The ants will carry the bait back with them to the nest, passing it amongst themselves and the queen.

External:

A spray, Termidor,  is sprayed around the perimeter of your house

Ant Treatments in Sydney – How Does the Ant Treatment Work?

The ant bait and the Termidor spray work in the same manner where the ants carry the product back to the nest.

Ants cannot detect that the bait and spray are an insecticide they walk over the product, carry it back with them to the nest and pass the chemical amongst each other inside the nest.

This process eradicates the entire nest of ants, including the queen.

By using this process, the nest does not need to be located as the ants will do the work and carry the insecticide with them back to the nest.

Steps that you can take to Protect Your Home from ants

Internally:
  • Clean up spills and food crumbs quickly.
  • Empty rubbish bins often
  • Do not feed pets outside
  • Store food in pest-proof containers
  • Rinse out jars and containers before placing them in rubbish and recycling bins
Externally:
  • Keep trees and shrubs trimmed back from your house.
  • Keep gutters and storm drains free of debris
  • Watch for new ant mounds or nests around your home
  • Keep trash bags sealed and in closed rubbish bins
  • Seal doors and windows

Is Termidor Safe to Be Used Around Children & Pets?

Termidor has been assessed by the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicine Authority and Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and is fully approved for use in domestic situations.

Termidor is water-based and virtually has no odour, will not leach through soil and is not damaging to soil micro-organisms, earthworms and plants. In addition, the active ingredient is used extensively on food crops around the world and as the leading product for flea and tick control on dogs and cats in Australia since 1996.

Termidor has also been safely used in over 4 million homes throughout the USA and Europe.

How Should I prepare my house for pest control?

Internally
  • Clean up internally & externally
  • Wipe down counter-tops down
  • Wipe under appliances to remove food scraps
  • Wipe down any open jars of honey, syrups or sugars
  • Limit the clutter within the house
  • Limit paper goods and throw out cardboard boxes.
Externally
  • Don’t hang the washing out
  • Mow the lawns
  • Limit garbage outside
  • Clean up the backyard area
  • Pack away any kids or pet toys.

What Should I Expect After an Ant Treatment?

  • It is common to see ants sitting near or around the ant bait.
  • Do not remove the ants
  • Do not disturb the ants

The reason for this is that we need the ants to carry the bait back with them to the nest and by interrupting them it interrupts the process of the ants carrying the bait back with them to the nest.

You may see ants up to 3 weeks after treatment.

If you are seeing ants that are scattered or dying this is your indication that the treatment is working.

PNP Pest Control Recommends:

After Pest Control

AFTER YOUR PEST CONTROL SERVICE

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR PEST CONTROL SERVICE

After Pest Control

United in solving your pest issues

The most common questions asked to any pest control company after pest control treatment has been completed is:

After Pest Control

Most home owners want to be sure they know what to expect and what steps they should take once the treatment has been completed as they do not want to do anything that may compromise the treatment and they want to also make sure that their loved ones are safe.

Should cleaning be completed before or after pest control?

Ideally PNP Pest Control recommends any deep cleaning is completed before the pest control, including vacuuming and mopping the floors, which would reduce the risk of the pesticides being compromised.

Once the treatment has been completed we also recommend not frequently mopping if possible, if you do need to mop we ask that you refrain from mopping around the edges for at least the first few weeks.

Sweeping & vacuuming is fine (depending on the treatment you have had done and your consultant will advise if there are any changes to this.

Is the pest control safe for children and pets?

Our pest control services are safe to be used around children and pets.

However, some customers may prefer to keep children and pets out of the way while the treatment is being conducted.

Please note: There are some treatments where we require you to vacate the premises for a period of time, this will be discussed with you at the time of booking.

What should I expect after the pest control has been completed?

Certain pest control treatments such as the general spray include dusting the roof void, sub floor, weep holes and all cracks and crevices with a fine dust. It is common to see an increase in pest activity in the first week or two.

This is known as the knock down stage or flushing out period.

In the case of German cockroach treatments, areas such as the fridge, dishwasher, microwave, under cabinets and inside cupboards are treated, the pesticides used will flush the cockroaches out.

Every property is different and because of this what you may or may not see, will vary between property type & external environments.

What to expect:

  • Some rodent infestations may take longer to bring under control as larger populations would need longer to feed off the bait.

How are rats and mice treated?

PNP Pest Control used bait to eradicate rats & mice

Roof

Bait will be placed in the roof cavity/space which is accessed through the man hole inside your home.

Internal

Rodent Bait blocks will be placed in internal areas such as behind the fridge, stove, washing machine, cupboards and behind furniture.

Sub Floor

Bait blocks will also be placed in the area under the house. If these areas are accessible to pets or children, the baits must be placed in lockable boxes.

Externally

Rats and mice come from external areas before they make it into your house, so we would recommend to get the external areas treated.

PNP pest Control recommends using lockable rodent stations as it not only protects pets, children neighbouring pests or wildlife they also protect the baits from rain – providing you with a longer protection.

How Does Rat Bait Work?

Most rodent baits available in today’s market are anticoagulants which means the baits are designed  to affect the rat or mice blood, by reducing the ability of blood to clot so they will bleed internally and die.

What Damage Can Untreated Rat or Mice Infestations Cause?

Rats

  • Cause significant damage to wires.
  • Have even been known to chew through floor joists and walls.
  • Cause damage to your homes insulation.
  • Undermine hill sides, retaining walls and other similar structures through their burrowing activity.

Mice

  • Unsanitary as their droppings have been implicated as potential asthma triggers in children.
  • Multiply quickly.
  • Cause significant damage to your home and furniture.
  • Contaminate food and other materials.
  • Implicated in causing house fires after chewing through electrical cables.

How Long Is the Warranty?

PNP Pest Control offers a 3 month warranty for rat and mice treatments

PNP Pest Control understands that any pest infestation in a tenanted property is a sensitive matter that requires an urgent response and discretion.

Whether you manage strata, commercial or residential properties, our expert technicians can plan inspections & treatments allowing you to protect all investment properties that you have been entrusted with by their owners.

Property managers should act quickly at the first sign of a pest problem to prevent an infestation spreading throughout the property and neighboring buildings. Cockroach and rodent populations can expand quickly, spreading to infest entire properties in no time.

Pests also pose a serious health and safety threat with the potential to transmit pathogenic germs and cause extensive damage to equipment and buildings.

Rodents gnawing on wires, for example, can short-circuit electrical systems and increase the risk of fires.

What is the importance of pest control in common areas?

Unit blocks or townhouse complexes are high density residential areas and from a pest control perspective treating individual units is not always sufficient enough to control pests such as large cockroach species, spiders and rats or mice.

Cockroach Issues

Large cockroaches such as the American, oriental and Australian cockroach, can live and breed within the roof void, the sub floor and inside the walls of buildings and by just treating one or two units is not sufficient to eradicate and prevent other units or townhouses having issues with large cockroaches.

It is highly recommended that any property that is having an issue with large cockroaches or spiders conduct a spray to the common areas of the building which should include the roof cavity, sub floor, all internal and external common areas.

Pest Control for large cockroaches & spiders in a unit block or townhouse complex is recommended to be completed on a 4-6 monthly basis. Help protect the investment properties that their owners have entrusted you with whilst maintaining a pest free environment for your tenants!

If a property has reported issues with rats or mice it is important that the external common areas, roof cavity and sub floor area also be treat.

Just by treating 1 unit or townhouse is not going to ensure that the issue will be resolved, and this is because rats and mice come from outside and by organising an ongoing maintenance plan for the common areas you are creating a barrier for rodents before they head indoors.

Rodent Issues

Rodent control in high density living areas such as unit blocks or townhouses need to be completed in alliance with NSW & Australian standards.

Baits cannot be placed in any open area where there is a risk of children, pets or wildlife can gain access to the baits.

PNP Pest control will use lockable bait stations in all our strata managed properties to ensure only the safest baiting methods are used.

Lockable rodent stations (also known as bait stations) are an effective tool for controlling rats and mice which are specifically designed to prevent unauthorised access to baits, to stop the bait spilling out, ‘crumbs’ being carried away or baits being pulled out by mice and rats.

  • Provide a secure place for rats and mice to feed
  • Protect children, pets and wildlife away from baits
  • Allow for baiting in areas that would have been difficult without boxes (such as externally)
  • Prevent baits being split
  • Easy monitoring as technician can open boxes to examine the amount of feeding
  • Tamper Resistant
  • Allows safe baiting in public or food preparation areas
  • Safe for pets and humans

What are the Impacts of an active pest Infestation in a tenanted property?

  • Complaints that often lead to rent reductions
  • Termination of contracts
  • Voids leading to revenue loss
  • Compensation claims
  • High cost of delayed pest control treatment
  • Maintenance and repair costs
  • Tarnished reputations of the owner and property manager

Who is responsible for pest control in a tenanted property?

The NSW Fair trading website states: The landlord is responsible for the eradication of pests if the infestation is evident at the start of the tenancy. As part of the landlord´s general obligations, the landlord must provide the residential premises in a reasonable state of cleanliness and fit for habitation by the tenant. Read More

What is pest control?

Definition: The regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, usually a member of the animal kingdom that impacts adversely on human activities.

A pest is an animal or plant that can affect humans, their food or their living conditions.

Pests include animals that:

  • carry diseases and parasites
  • Attack and eat vegetable and cereal crops
  • Damage stored food.
  • Attack and eat farm and station animals.
  • Damage clothing
  • Damage buildings
  • Bite people.

Pest Control Sydney – Control of pests is essential to ensure people, their stock and food supplies are not destroyed or contaminated, and the health of humans is not put at risk.

Pest control is the control of pests and the methods taken to help reduce the number of pests to a level where the risk to people, their food and the environment is minimised.

What is the importance of pest control?

Pest control is the process of managing and eliminating pests designed to decrease pest levels. PNP pest control uses chemicals that are safe to be used around children and pets that help control, prevent and eliminate pests in residential and commercial properties. We are knowledgeable in environmental safety and our pest control programs are designed to protect and prevent pest infestations in an efficient & timely manner.

One major reason why pest control is important is for health reasons. Pests can carry serious diseases, one that we all learnt about in school is the Bubonic plague which caused the death of millions of people worldwide was carried by rats and other rodents.

Cockroaches and other pests also carry germs in their bodies that can be transmitted to people. Asthma in children has been linked to cockroach droppings.

Pests can also impact production of food supplies which is another reason why pest control is vital in agriculture.

Pests not only carry diseases that can impact your health their destruction to building structure should also be a concern to all home and business owners.

The final reason why pest control is important is simply to “keep up appearances”, who likes the sight of pests like cockroaches or rats running through their home or offices?

Common Pests and their breeding & living areas

  • Flies: breed in rubbish, food scraps, open septic tanks, under eaves, dirty benches and tables, lawn clippings and animal droppings
  • Cockroaches: Breed in rubbish, food scraps, dirty benches, drains, behind stoves, microwaves fridges, inside cupboards especially in the kitchen and bathroom, under floors of older houses.
  • Mosquitoes: Breed in cool, dark and damp places such as still water collected in discarded refrigerators, car tyres and tins, water storage tanks and bodies of water.
  • Fleas: are normally found on cats and dogs and need blood to breed. They can bite humans when there are no animals around. Many fleas are brought into houses attached on clothing. Normally found on cats and dogs
  • Mites: Live and breed on animals and people.
  • Rats and Mice: Breed and live on rubbish, exposed food, storage places, kitchen cupboards and holes in walls. Also, can be found in pipes, insulation, under buildings, in ceilings, wall cavities and in gardens.
  • Bed bugs: transported from place to place in or on a person’s luggage. They hide in cracks and crevices during the day where people sleep and will seek a blood meal by biting a person in their bed during the night. Bed bugs need a blood meal to mature into adults. Bites can be very itchy and if scratched can become infected.
